Dude, you vetoed their appropriations bill…
Recapping: Democrats in the legislature pass a budget, Governor Rauner vetoes that budget, a year of impasse ensues. Now service providers sue the Governor for failing to pay over $100 million for services they have been obligated to provide and he says he supports their lawsuit: “Frankly, in some ways, I’m cheering for them. I mean, it’s ridiculous. What state in America just doesn’t pay its bills? We’re the only state.”
Wait … what?
Okay, maybe he considers that he’s doing it for some larger cause (crushing unions and thus the middle class) that in his mind is worth a great deal of pain (to people other than himself). But does he accept no responsibility at all for the suffering he is creating?
This is the Governor’s doing. He owns it.
