SUMMARY:Democrat Day in Springfield
DESCRIPTION:                                  \n  \n A message from DPDC Chairman\, Bob Peickert:\nDemocrat Day in Springfield is August 17. The state fair is that week. The Illinois Democratic County Chairs Association has its annual brunch that day. \nFor those who have never attended you may want to consider it this time. We generally have 3-4 tables of DuPage Dems. The brunch has about 1\,200-1\,500 in attendance and many state officials and a keynote speaker. Here’s what we normally do. \nWednesday August 16 (optional but most go). Travel to Springfield and arrive whenever but we suggest by 3. That day offers options such as the Lincoln museum or some events sponsored by elected officials or organizations. The DPDC may host one if enough people attend. The collar county chairs host a reception that evening (free). I will let you know about hotel deals or you can just reserve now. If you stay at the Crowne tell them you’re with the ILDCCA brunch. Rooms are around $120. Share a room if you can. \nThursday Aug 17. For those who didn’t stay out to late the nite before\, the brunch starts at 8:30 AM at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Legislators speak about 10:00. The early part is a great time to network and meet dignitaries. Brunch is over about 11. Some of us go to the fairgrounds where the Dems have their own area. Hot dogs\, beer and soda are usually provided. Some of us then walk the midway and watch Dan Bailey find his smoothie. Rides are optional. If buses are provided we get back to the hotel about 3:30. You can drive there if you’d like. Head home or stay and relax in scenic Springfield. \nIf interested\, tickets for brunch are $50. This is the price for premium seats. We don’t want regular seating.\nI must know soon if you want to go and a check made out to ILDCCA. Notice had gone out so we need to beat others so we can get seats near the stage.\nWho’s in? \nBob Peickert \nDuPage Democratic Committee Chairman \n  \nFor tickets\, call Bob Peickert at 630-421-2405.\n  \nFor other information\, click here.

SUMMARY:STATE BUDGET PANEL w/ Rep. Kifowit and Sen. Holmes
DESCRIPTION:In response to false and misleading partisan spin about the bipartisan budget compromise\, state Rep. Stephanie Kifowit\, D-Oswego\, is inviting area residents to hear the truth at a “What Is Really Happening In Springfield?” discussion on Saturday\, Aug. 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Waubonsie Valley High School\, located at 2590 Ogden Avenue in Aurora. \n“Partisan special interest groups—including Governor Rauner and his supporters—have been spreading false and slanted news about the bipartisan budget and the education funding reform bill I helped pass\,” Kifowit said. “I believe taxpayers deserve to know the truth and in this era of ‘fake news’ it’s more important now than ever that elected officials and citizens engage in a frank\, honest dialogue based on the facts\, not partisan spin.” \nKifowit will be joined by state Sen. Linda Holmes\, D-Aurora\, Naperville Township Assessor Warren Dixon\, III\, Ralph Martire from the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability\, and representatives from Advance Illinois. Topics to be discussed include the recently passed bipartisan\, compromise budget\, property taxes and education funding reform. Check-in starts at 8:15 a.m. and each panel will lead a discussion every hour beginning at 8:30 until 11:30 to give residents the opportunity to hear all discussions. \n“Right-wing news outlets have mischaracterized and even outright lied about the events in Springfield\, leaving residents confused and angry\,” Holmes said. “My hope is this seminar will set the record straight about the challenges our state faced during the governor’s budget crisis and the steps I took to end it.”

SUMMARY:Meet Ameya Pawar\, candidate for governor
DESCRIPTION:Join Ameya Pawar\, 47th Ward alderman and Democratic candidate for Illinois governor\, in Naperville on July 24th\, as part of the One Illinois Bus Tour. Inspired by his vision\, more than 2\,200 people have signed up to volunteer for the campaign to help forge a New Deal for Illinois – one that invests in communities through equitable education funding\, expanding access to universal child care\, rebuilding our infrastructure and creating thousands of good-paying jobs\, and reforming our criminal justice system.

Our focus will also be on the benefits of ACA and our many pre-existing conditions. Your signs can speak to that as well. Bring American flags too – we are doing this FOR a better America! \nWhat to wear – Pink for Planned Parenthood\, your Handmaid’s Tale costume\, your latest online protest t-shirt purchase…\nHow to Prep – There will be media there. You may get asked a question or two. Think about what clear and short message you’d like to share. Why are YOU there?  Why do YOU resist? Share this event on social media and hand this flyer out to friends and neighbors. Get ready to meet some awesome people!\nWe will have a few speakers and would like to share your stories as well.  At the close we will take a group picture with the Mobile Billboard and then those people who can follow the Mobile Billboard to the next location in their vehicles\, can “tailgate” over there together. \n*If you are able to “tailgate”\, please decorate your cars and windows ahead of time with messages\, flags\, etc. We will travel (respectfully and carefully) with the truck hosting the mobile billboard.  \n12:45 – 1:15 pm Roskam’s Barrington Office\, 200 South Hough St. Barrington\, IL 60010 \nIf you were unable to join us earlier\, this will be another great chance to protest with signs\, flags\, chanting\, etc.  Again\, there will be media presence\, so please plan ahead. Bring signs with big print\, flags and other items you feel would spread our message and gain attention.  \nThe Mobile Billboard will make its final leg of a four day journey to Federal Plaza\, S. Dearborn St\, Chicago\, IL 60604\, arriving at approximately 2:45 pm and ending at 4:15 pm. \nTake lots pictures and post to social media! \nLet’s keep it positive\, pro-active and fierce!

SUMMARY:Summer Pig Roast and FUNdraiser
DESCRIPTION:Naperville Democrats Summer Pig Roast and FUNdraiser\nat the home of Naperville Township Supervisor Eddie Bedford\nOur Summer FUNdraiser helps raise money to fight back against the Republican Party and it’s leader Donald Trump. In the recent April elections\, we ran a slate of candidates for the Naperville Township Board\, and elected Democrats to six out of the eight Board positions. This is a Township Board that had NEVER had a Democrat elected to it before. That was a big win for us\, but those kind of wins cost money and if we are going to keep being successful in elections we need to raise some money to do it. For the cost of a FUNdraising ticket you are helping fight back.  This money will do a lot of good and help us make a difference. Some of our local Democratic candidates will be in a attendance too\, so you will have an opportunity to hear from them about how they are fighting back. Also our FUNdraiser is going to be a lot of fun\, it’s even in the title…FUNdraiser! We are going to have great food there. Not only are we having a pig roast\, and barbecue chicken but we will have vegetarian options as well. There is going to be live music and games\, like volleyball\, bocce\, etc. Come join us\, relax\, and mingle with people that feel the same way you do. SUMMARY:Issue Canvass Training
DESCRIPTION:The Democratic Party of DuPage County\nand\nAmericans for Democratic Action\njointly host\nISSUE CANVASS TRAINING\n(Two sessions: 6:30-7:30pm and 7:45-8:45pm)\n  \nInstead of stewing about all that is going on in the US and in IL\, we’ve decided to START TALKING to our neighbors about it. Join us as we do a summer-long issue canvass and find out what people in your DuPage County neighborhood think. This is also the perfect vehicle to find those who are already wanting to help us win in 2018 and just await your kind invitation. \nAt this training\, we’ll teach you a very low-key way to knock on doors and really find out what your neighbors care about. If you’ve never canvassed before\, this is a good opportunity to learn the ropes and get your feet wet before election season\, and for those who have canvassed before\, we need your help with this project. \nSIGN UP FOR THE TRAINING HERE (choose session at 6:30 or 7:45 pm)
