SUMMARY:Petition Signature Arithmetic: 25 * 20 = 500 in 2 hours
DESCRIPTION:For those of you who didn’t receive the eVite for Sunday’s festivities\, here’s the message from Dianne and Brenna: \nHi everyone! \nWe have an opportunity this coming Sunday to truly make a difference! \nGovernor Pat Quinn will be announcing his choice for Lt. Governor later this week\, leaving him just under a month to gather up to 10\,000 signatures to place him on the ballot. \nEd Agustin\, our Precinct Committeeman of the Year 2012\, is our candidate for State Representative in District 41\, Darlene Senger’s old district\, which will be an open seat since she has decided to run against Bill Foster.  And Ed needs a minimum of 500 signatures to place him on the ballot\, with another 500 for insurance purposes! \nObviously\, neither of them can do this alone and this is where you come in!  We need 25 of you to volunteer for 2 hours this coming Sunday to gather just 20 signatures for each of the candidates.  If we can meet this goal\, Ed will have his minimum # of 500\, and the governor will be well on his way to the 1500 he needs from DuPage. \nAnd\, remember\, family members and friends can also do this with you…many hands make light work!  Please come!  You will be making a huge difference for our candidates\, our township\, and the Party we all love!  And\, we will have a notary on hand when you return to the Panera who will notarize your signature and we can give the completed petitions to the candidates or their reps at that time. \nPlease bring a clipboard\, two pens\, and wear comfortable shoes.  If you have an NTDO name badge\, wear it.  It’s going to be sunny and 50 degrees! \nPlease RSVP to Dianne (dianne@napervilledemocrats.org\, or 630-420-8502) so we know to expect you. \nThank you! \nDianne McGuire\, NTDO Chair\, and Brenna Conway\, Quinn DuPage Coordinator \n

SUMMARY:Petition Drive for Congressman Bill Foster
DESCRIPTION:I will be setting up volunteer meet up opportunities to walk door to door collecting signatures for Congressman Foster on the next 3 Saturday mornings\, and I’ll be walking neighborhoods a few weeknights each week from 5pm – 7:30pm. If you want to join me\, I’d be happy to meet up.\n \nOur first big volunteer meet up will be Saturday\, October 26 at 9am at Einstein Bagels\, 22 W Jackson Ave\, Naperville (downtown Naperville). The Congressman will be there to rally the troops!\n \n\n\nWalking doors with targeted lists of registered voters is the best way to collect valid signatures. I walked a Naperville neighborhood on Wednesday night and was able to hit 56 doors and collect 25 signatures in 2.5 hours. I’m trying to make very compact and efficient turfs.\n \nPlease feel free to forward this email or info about the Saturday\, October 26 volunteer meet up to your contacts\, and please let me know if you’ll be joining us.\n \nThank you so much!\n \n—\nKurt Gonska\nBill Foster for Congress\n\nCell: (708) 717-8517\nkurt@billfoster.com

SUMMARY:September Community Forum - Congressman Bill Foster and Attorney Shawn Collins
DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to the next Community Forum of the Naperville Township Democratic Organization to be held at 7:30 PM on Thursday\, September 26th at the City of Naperville Municipal Center\, 400 S. Eagle Street\, in Meeting Rooms B & C on the lower level. \nWe will hear from Congressman Bill Foster\, followed by a presentation from Naperville attorney Shawn Collins. \nShawn is a lawyer for the people against the corporations and governments that often mistreat them. \nShawn Collins and his ten member law firm has fought for over twenty years for justice and a “day in court” for those who badly need a lawyer\, but often can’t afford one. \nFor example\, Shawn has: \n* successfully argued to the Illinois Supreme Court for the rights of citizens to obtain information from their government;\n* won the dismissal of serious criminal charges which had been brought against DuPage County residents for protesting the Iraq War on a public road;\n* sued to enforce the civil rights of the developmentally disabled\, when the State of Illinois refused to fund their medical care; and\n* on behalf of over 20\,000 citizens\, won federal court orders mandating that corporate polluters clean up the water supplies and neighborhoods that they had contaminated. \nFor his legal work\, Shawn has been recognized as a “Top 100 Trial Lawyer” since 2008 by the American Trial Lawyers Association\, in addition to receiving many other awards and recognitions from his peers.

SUMMARY:Naperville Last Fling (Labor Day) Parade
DESCRIPTION:Latest Information and Details:\n\nMeet behind Naperville North High School by 9:30 or so.\nThe NTDO is at position 22.  Congressman Bill Foster will be marching with this group.  Wear something blue.\nAnother option: You can also march with Governor Quinn\, who will be at position 8.  The Quinn group is wearing bright green.\nStep-off is at 10:00.  It should take less than an hour to finish the parade.\nAfterwards we’ll all repair to Sullivan’s for appetizers (first round free!) and beverages.\n\n  \nIt looks like the weather should clear in time for the parade tomorrow. Upper 60s and some sun peeking through the clouds.  Perfect for marching! \n\nThe NTDO will again be participating in Naperville’s Last Fling (Labor Day) parade with our traditional Salute to Labor! \nStep-off is at 10:00\, so try to be there by 9:30 or so.  We are at position 22 this year – up near the front! – so that’s nice.  Wear something blue. \nAfter the parade\, we’ll meet at Sullivan’s to celebrate our successes and enjoy more of the day. \nJoin us Monday.  We’ll have fun! \n \n ….BTW\, there are lots more pictures from last year’s parade here.  Enjoy!

SUMMARY:Governor's Day at the 2013 State Fair
DESCRIPTION:The 2013 Illinois State Fair runs from August 8 through August 18.  While each day brings new events\, competitions\, and attractions\, the focus for us is Governor’s Day on August 14.  While Governor Quinn attends much of the Illinois State Fair\, this is his day to host special guests\, including former Illinois Governors\, and it’s our day to join him. \nFor those of you who have not attended\, here is an idea of what you can expect. \nTuesday\, August 13 – Many of us go down the night before.  The Illinois Democratic County Chairman’s Association (ILDCCA) gets special room rates at nearby hotels.  There are a number of receptions that day including the reception sponsored by the Democratic Collar County Chairs at the Crowne Plaza.  Some get down early and go to the Illinois State Fair. \nWednesday\, August 14 – The Governor’s Brunch is held at the Crowne Plaza hotel and begins at 8:30 AM.  If you do not come down the night before\, please allow at least 3 hours to drive down there.  The brunch features a keynote speaker and speeches by Pat Quinn\, Lisa Madigan\, Sheila Simon\, Jesse White\, Mike Madigan\, and John Cullerton.  Attendance is usually between 1\,200-1\,500. It is quite an event.  Following the brunch\, many of us go to the State Fair before heading back to DuPage.  Some stay an extra night. \nPlan  early!   Contact any NTDO officer for more information and reserve your premium table spot.
