Today is Women\u2019s Equality Day — the anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment, which gave women the right to vote.<\/p>\n

We’ve come a long way in the 94 years since then, but with politicians and courts still threatening women’s rights to make decisions about their health, it’s clear there’s more work to do.<\/p>\n

That’s why I’m proud to tell you that I just signed into law new protections from employment discrimination for mothers-to-be in the state of Illinois.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I fought hard for these protections — no woman should have to worry about facing unfair working conditions just because she decided to start a family.<\/p>\n

As an amendment to the Illinois Human Rights Act, the new law ensures that pregnancy cannot be used to discriminate against working women.<\/p>\n

Protecting women\u2019s rights and health during pregnancy is a crucial step towards creating a truly equal society.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s what I\u2019m fighting for. And I won\u2019t let up.<\/p>\n
