The upcoming\u00a0April 9 municipal elections<\/a>\u00a0represent an opportunity for all of us to elect new, effective representation in the local offices that most directly affect our day-to-day lives. The NTDO has offered candidates for those offices a platform for sharing their messages with our membership.<\/p>\n

Dennis Clark, candidate for Highway Commissioner in Winfield Township, offers the following:<\/p>\n

\"\"Thanks to all the NTDO voters and supporters for helping with my bid in the 2012 election for the Forest Preserve Commissioner, District 5.\u00a0 This election was unsuccessful for me, but did raise awareness of the management and financial issues at the Forest Preserve.<\/p>\n

I still believe strongly in helping to provide better government to the Citizens of DuPage. Therefore, I am a Candidate in the consolidated election of 2013 for the position of Highway Commissioner Winfield Township.\u00a0 The NTDO covers a very small portion of Winfield Township.\u00a0\u00a0 So please help spread the word to anyone you know in Warrenville, Winfield and\/or West Chicago.<\/p>\n

Below are the top three goals of the position.<\/p>\n

The three most important goals or objections of the Winfield Road District are?<\/p>\n

  1. Safety of the public<\/strong>\u2026..taxpayers should expect to be able to quickly and safely travel the township roads. This would be accomplished through constant inspection of the assigned right of ways for needed road repairs and maintenance, snow plowing, mowing, trash pickup, signage, drainage issues, and vegetation that requires trimming and trees that would need to be removed prior to becoming a problem.<\/li>\n
  2. The Road District is the area of township government with the greatest hope for an\u00a0increase in efficiency, under the right direction, by reducing duplication<\/strong>. The Highway Commissioner should be representing the taxpayers and continue to search for opportunities to provide services at a reduced cost by partnering with other township governments and municipalities to share equipment and services.\u00a0 This is only logical as the area to be maintained continues to shrink.\u00a0 The highway commissioner should be proactive in searching out alternative materials for salt and road mixes and means of applying salt that could reduce cost and impact on the environment. These \u201cnew ideas and logical ideas\u201d can only be accomplished if the voters elect someone that is not compromised by other elected officials, friends, family and pension opportunities.<\/li>\n
  3. It is inevitable that township government in DuPage will be under increased scrutiny as more land is slowly annexed to municipalities.\u00a0 The Highway Department should engage in\u00a0development of a 5, 10 and 15 year plan<\/strong>\u00a0that includes insuring not only continued service to taxpayers, but what alternatives are the best for all parties.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n
