He paid no taxes?<\/em><\/p>\nAre you sure this is standard practice?<\/em><\/p>\nNo wonder he won\u2019t release his returns.<\/em><\/p>\nThe bigger the losses, the more he earns.<\/em><\/p>\nAirline, Trump U, and casinos<\/em><\/p>\nAll went belly-up but he knows<\/em><\/p>\nLoss is gain. My projection:<\/em><\/p>\nHe\u2019ll make money from a lost election.<\/em><\/p>\nIt\u2019s been one first after another. First candidate to offer a health plan described only as really \u201cbeautiful\u201d and \u201cunbelievable.\u201d First ever to brag about his penis. First to be endorsed by the National Enquirer<\/a>. First to have gone through six bankruptcies<\/a>. First to say about his opponent\u2019s TV ads: \u201cIt\u2019s not nice. And I don\u2019t deserve that.\u201d Did Barry Goldwater say of LBJ \u201cHe\u2019s not nice to me\u201d? I frankly doubt it very much. And what candidate has seen his name so often in the same sentence with Mussolini\u2019s?<\/p>\nAnd then came the New York Times article<\/a> : Donald Trump lost $916 million in one year. Not a great accomplishment for a guy who took courses at Wharton. (For someone who attended the Iowa Writers Workshop, yes, but not a businessman.) No wonder he is reluctant to show off his tax return.<\/p>\nYou have to worry what his campaign is doing to his businesses<\/a>. Angry unemployed white people are not a great demographic for high-end stuff. Maybe instead of selling luxury condos and golf memberships, he\u2019ll have to turn to trailer parks and tattoo parlors. Trump Pizza. Don\u2019s Used RVs. I\u2019m serious. From what I\u2019ve been told, I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s true, his swanky new hotel down the street from the White House is practically deserted and the employees are required to wear tourist clothing and hang around the lobby pretending to be customers and engage in light-hearted conversation and order expensive drinks which are actually Lipton\u2019s tea on the rocks. I\u2019ve heard this from various people.<\/p>\nMillions of Republicans will vote for him in the blind faith that he cannot possibly be elected. They are sure that a man with that particular scowling face, whose smile is a smirk, a face that says loud and clear \u201coverprivileged rich boy who never grew up,\u201d can never win the hearts of Middle America. Republicans have the most to lose since they tend to be more invested in stocks and bonds, and there is a consensus that a loose cannon in the White House will not play well on Wall Street. In other words, there will be a Trump tax to be paid \u2014 some people say 10 to 20 percent right off the top.<\/p>\n
Investors are watching. The S&P 500 took an upward swoop<\/a> after Hillary Clinton clearly dominated the first debate, meanwhile\u00a0Citigroup advised<\/a> that if Trump\u2019s chances improve, you should consider selling stocks and bonds and buying gold. A downturn in the market won\u2019t mean much to the unemployed coal miners of West Virginia, but Republicans with a nice retirement portfolio might take serious losses. Under the socialist regime of our Kenyan president, the Dow Jones has more than doubled. How conservative is it to elect a successor who is playing a persona, whose true thinking is unknown and his likely course of action unpredictable?<\/p>\nI\u2019m a tired old liberal. I don\u2019t need a revolution; amiable competence is good enough. Decent schools, great hospitals, buses that run on time, smart cops, and programs for the autistic kids that there seem to be so many more of. The Second Amendment? Feh. In Wyoming, feel free, but on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, if you openly carry a weapon and you\u2019re not a cop, you are a scary person and a threat to the community. In Waco, carry a bazooka on your shoulder, I don\u2019t care.<\/p>\n
