You should not lie about things that can be easily disproven with short video clips.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I had a prior commitment and was unable to watch the debate last night, but I read people saying that Mike Pence’s talk-show host background served him well. \u00a0That insofar as either of the combatants “won,” it was probably him.<\/p>\n

But the after-debate is not going so well. \u00a0As my favorite blogger Jonathan Chait says<\/a>,<\/p>\n

One might complain with the voters for prioritizing surface appearance over substance. … But the fact remains that the rules are the rules, and as they exist, there is usually little penalty for lying incessantly as long as you do it with proper body language and a reassuringly manly baritone.<\/p>\n

There is, however, an exception to that rule: You should not lie about things that can be easily disproven with short video clips. …\u00a0It was all too easy for the Hillary Clinton campaign to respond with this devastating video:<\/p>\n
