\"\"<\/a>Sarah Kliff at Vox lays waste to the GOP talking point that they have to do something now<\/em><\/strong> because “Obamacare marketplaces are collapsing.” \u00a0They are not. \u00a0(BTW, the fact that they may have convinced many of their voters of this lie doesn’t make it true, and the GOP office-holders at least know they are lying about this. \u00a0To the detriment of 20-million-plus health-care-deserving Americans.)<\/p>\n

Republicans\u2019 main argument for Obamacare repeal is a lie<\/a><\/h2>\n

Republican lawmakers consistently claim that the Obamacare marketplaces are collapsing, so they need to pass a bill to repeal and replace the health law.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe marketplace is collapsing, and countless more Americans will get hurt if we don\u2019t act,\u201d Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said<\/a> on the Senate floor last month.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe’ll move ahead with deliberate speed,\u201d Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) said<\/a> in a recent speech. \u201cWe\u2019re doing that because exchanges are collapsing.\u201d<\/p>\n

The marketplaces, though, have refused to cooperate. They are not working perfectly \u2014 but they are far from ruinous demise, experts say. But the Republican replacement plan<\/a>, introduced Thursday, could change that. It contains several provisions<\/a> that could accelerate the crumbling of the marketplaces and leave millions of Americans with no health care options.<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, the marketplaces are in okay shape,\u201d says David Anderson, a research associate at Duke University who studies the individual market. \u201cThe amount of competition isn\u2019t where some people would like it to be, but this isn\u2019t collapse.\u201d<\/p>\n
