Silk Road Rising (formerly known as Silk Road Theatre Project) creates live theatre and online videos that tell stories through primarily Asian American and Middle Eastern American lenses. In representing communities that intersect and overlap, we advance a polycultural worldview.<\/em><\/p>\n

The community is invited to attend the next meeting of the Naperville Township Democratic\u00a0Organization to be held at 7:30 PM on Thursday, May 21st at the Naperville Municipal Center, lower\u00a0level.<\/p>\n

\"mosque340x200\"<\/a>Following a short business meeting, we will hear a very special presentation by Silk Road Rising<\/a><\/strong>, a\u00a0nonprofit theater in Chicago. At Silk Road Rising, they use arts to generate conversations to build greater\u00a0cultural understanding and support for Asian and Middle Eastern Americans. We will view a 20 minute\u00a0online video play \u2013 Mosque Alert<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 which is centered on the story of two fictional Naperville families\u00a0whose lives are torn apart when a new mosque is proposed for their neighborhood. Following the\u00a0viewing, Jamil Khoury, Artistic Director (and creator of the “Mosque Alert” project)\u00a0at Silk Road Rising<\/strong>, will lead the \u201ctalkback session\u201d<\/strong> during\u00a0which participants will have an opportunity to weigh in on the characters\u2019 motivations and behavior,\u00a0with the goal of better understanding current debates surrounding the locating of Islamic houses of\u00a0worship. \u00a0(Silk Road Rising’s\u00a0Executive Director\u00a0Malik Gillani<\/strong> will also be joining us.)<\/p>\n
