\n\"\"\"\"Naperville Township has called a special meeting\u00a0for the purpose of considering the addition\u00a0of an\u00a0advisory referendum to the November ballot<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0regarding the United States Supreme Court\u2019s\u00a0ruling known as\u00a0Citizen\u2019s United v. Federal Election Commission<\/strong>. \u00a0The meeting is\u00a0to be held on\u00a0Wednesday, August 8th, at 6 PM<\/strong>\u00a0(be there at 5:30)\u00a0<\/strong>at the\u00a0township offices located at 139 Water Street<\/span>\u00a0Naper Settlement Pre-Emption House at the corner of Webster and Aurora in Naperville.<\/div>\n

The 2010\u00a0Citizens United<\/em>\u00a0ruling held that the federal\u00a0government cannot restrict independent political contributions by corporations or unions. Opponents\u00a0say the move enables wealthy individuals and groups to exercise undue influence over elections.<\/div>\n

One more udpate (8\/8\/12)<\/strong>: I’m told that I misrepresented the origins of this meeting in my email yesterday when I said it was “put together by township government.” \u00a0In fact, according to\u00a0Paul Sjordal<\/a>, who wrote me to follow up, “It was called by the 20 plus registered voters in the township that filed a request with the township clerk to call the meeting.” \u00a0My apologies to the organizers, and thanks, Paul, for the correction. \u00a0Steve.<\/div>\n
