Are Republicans Really Going After Social Security Again?

John BoehnerWith the GOP in control of both houses of Congress, they have a lot more freedom to put their pet projects on the agenda.  They’ve been clear that they want to take health care away from the 20 million Americans who have gained coverage under Obamacare, and they’ve been clear that they want to deport undocumented immigrants, whatever that action does to their children.  They’ve already acted to open the money spigot into our politics even further (See “CAMPAIGN FINANCE” here), and that’s just what I’m thinking of off the top of my head.

Now there’s something else for us to worry about.  These two pieces from Dylan Thomas Scott at TPM ought to raise an eyebrow.

…from the second piece above:

Conservatives have long searched for an effective message against Social Security. Now, they seem to have found a new one to try as they set up a fight over the 80-year-old program in the coming Congress: The disabled are robbing the retired.

They’re persistent and they believe in what they’re doing.  Let’s keep our eyes on things.

UPDATE, 1/29: I should also have pointed you to this little primer, also by Dynal Scott, on the history of GOP efforts to kill Social Security.
