Looking for a way to get politically involved and participate in our democracy? Attend the next community forum of the Naperville Township Democratic Organization to be held at 7:30 PM on Thursday, October 30th, at the City of Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle Street, in Meeting Rooms B & C on the lower level.

In addition to short presentations from various Democratic candidates, we will present poll watching instructions to our precinct committeemen/volunteers.

And we’ll hear from NTDO leaders Dr. Stephanie Hughes and Karen Ide, on a topic we all wish had been addressed positively decades ago: The Equal Rights Amendment: If Not Now, WHEN? The Illinois Legislative Veto Session in November could hold the key to its passage!

Some background on the Equal Rights Amendment:

• ERA passed out of Congress in 1972
• 35 states subsequently ratified it
• It fell 3 states short and Illinois was among the 15 states that failed to ratify it
• The ERA was approved by the Illinois House last spring (Lou Lang has been the leader on this issue)
• It has not come up for a vote in the Illinois Senate this year
• But, it could in the Veto Session.

So that effort is what we’ll be hearing about.
