Mike Frerichs: Investing in Green Agriculture

Mike Frerichs is our candidate for Illinois State Treasurer (he’s currently a State Senator from Champaign).  I was interested to see this from him the other day:

Dear Steve, I was raised in the small community of Gifford, IL, where my family has been farming for five generations. I have seen firsthand the hard work it takes to run a successful farm in Illinois. As your next Treasurer I will work from Day One to ensure that the largest sector of Illinois’ economy gets the attention and resources it needs to continue to be the backbone of the American agricultural system. This is why I am excited to announce my plan for environmental and agricultural investment that provides farmers in Illinois with additional inexpensive capital to get the system upgrades they need while also incentivizing eco-friendly farming practices.   As Treasurer, I will continue to seek out smart policy programs that put more of our people to work and help make Illinois more sustainable, both downstate and upstate.
